Wendy Fabian - Art Informs My Life...
Art informs my life in so many ways and on so many levels that to speak of it in a defining way is like trying to put the ocean and all its mysteries into a teacup.
My training is made up of gleaning instruction from countless other artists and their work, my own personal study of the physical and metaphysical, and of course how all that is filtered through my own experience.
Although Art surrounds us, we miss most of it entirely, reserving that sanctioned word for things that are preciously out of reach behind glass, or inside a frame. I like to think about art as the force that drives us to refine our intention, including the intention to allow what is. The artists I most respect are those who, like Andy Goldsworthy, create ephemeral works with whatever is at hand. While quite different from my own work, artists such as Goldsworthy provide an inarguable validity to the purely elemental approach. This has become the gold standard for me.
We all do so much dancing around in an effort to germinate that holy kernel of creativity and much of that activity laughingly takes us way off point. I am of an age now where I am noticing that "to make art" is no longer an apt expression for what I am doing. The art is always there. I am simply honing the blade and oiling the hinges most of the time, so that the dream emerges whole.
